I built a new Cloake Board today. Before I just had the metal slide, and I put an excluder under it. This one has the excluder built into it. Can't wait to use it.

A cloake board is used to switch a queenless cell builder ( slide in ) into a queen right cell finisher ( slide out ).

It is generally thought that queen cells that are finished in a queen right hive are of higher quality. I've had what I think are good results also using the cell builder colony to finish the cells they started. But the cloake board makes it very easy to switch back and forth without disturbing the bees.

Here is an excellent link that describes the use of a cloake board much better than I can : http://www.honeybee.breeding.com/HBIS/pdf/Cobey%20-%20Cloake%20Board%20Method-QR.pdf
